Shena Miura was born in Tokyo, Japan into a wealthy family. She was a deeply loved and gifted child. She started singing, painting and writing poems by age five. Her mother was surprised when she read her daughter's poem because Shena had so much poetic sensibility by the age of five. Shena was chosen by her elementary school's choir as mezzo-soprano by the age of ten. That choir always won the elementary schools competition in Tokyo.

She started her career as a backup vocalist with a Japanese R&B band at age eighteen. The band played black music such as R&B, soul, and black contemporary at a club in Tokyo as the house band. The club also had another black band whose leader came from "Con Funk Shun". For this period Shena was inspired a lot by the black music environment. In 1993, she traveled alone to L.A. to record her first solo demo at Paramount's recording studio. Her first demo song was "Be Mine" written by Shawn Jackson.

Shena's first debut song, "Long distance love" was released in 1994 by Colombia Records. In 1995, Shena joined another female singer and formed "The name of love". Together they released two singles "Konya ha touch me" and "Smile" as well as two albums "Super duper" and "Club Christmas" which was produced by a major Japanese label called Pony Canyon. "The name of love" is still active in the music industry.

After she left "The name of love" Shena aggressively pursued her solo career. Her band performed at live houses in Tokyo and she wrote numerous songs. During that time Shena's father's business failed and devastated her family's finances. Shortly thereafter her mother was diagnosed with cancer which really tested her faith in God. Fortunately her mother survived. This experience has caused her to reflect on the more important things in her life.

In 2006, Shena decided to go to Berklee College of Music where she had won a scholarship. It was a dream come true when she was accepted to Berklee and she has consistently been named to the Dean's list in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

In 2008, Shena was chosen as one of the finalists in the famous Kobe Jazz Vocal Queen Contest in Japan.
